The Rocket League Alpha Boost, officially named "Gold Rush," is a highly coveted and rare item in the game that serves as a Rocket Trail. A Rocket Trail is a visual effect that appears behind a player's car when they use boost to gain speed or fly through the air.

What sets the Alpha Boost apart from other Rocket Trails is not just its visual appeal but also its history and extreme rarity, making it a symbol of prestige among Rocket League players.

Can we still get Alpha Boost in 2025?

No, Alpha Boost—officially known as "Gold Rush"—is no longer obtainable through standard in-game methods. It was exclusively awarded to players who participated in Rocket League's Alpha testing phase in 2015. With the removal of player-to-player trading on December 5, 2023, the only remaining method to acquire Alpha Boost is by purchasing an account that already possesses it.

Here are all the details you need to know.

Origin story: What is Rocket League Alpha Boost (Gold Rush)?

The Gold Rush Alpha Boost was introduced as part of a limited set of items given exclusively to players who participated in the Alpha testing phase of Rocket League in 2015. This was before the game’s official release, and the items were intended as a reward and a badge of honor for those early adopters who helped shape the game.

Alongside the Alpha Boost, three other exclusive items were released:

    1. Gold Cap (Topper): A gold hat that sits on top of the car.
    2. Goldstone (Wheels): A set of wheels with a unique gold appearance.
    3. Gold Nugget (Antenna): A gold nugget that attaches to the car's antenna.

Among these, the Alpha Boost is the most sought after, due in part to its striking visual effect and the nostalgia associated with it.

The Alpha Boost is special because of its bright, golden flame that trails behind the car when boosting. This vibrant gold color stands out more than a lot of other boosts in the game and carries prestige due to its link to Rocket League's early days. Additionally, when the car performs flips or aerial moves, the flame creates a spinning effect, making it look like the car is flying through a ring of fire—an effect unique to the Alpha Boost

How much does Alpha Boost cost? The Alpha Boost is one of the rarest items in Rocket League, with only about 500 ever given out during the game's Alpha phase, and none since. Its rarity makes it highly sought after and a status symbol in the Rocket League community. Due to its scarcity, the Alpha Boost is also one of the most valuable items in the game's trading market, often selling for hundreds of thousands of in-game credits, which can equal thousands of real-world dollars.

    • Gold Rush (Alpha Boost): 800,000 to 1,000,000 credits, roughly equivalent to $4,000 - $5,000.

How to get Alpha Boost in Rocket League

Since it was never made available to the general public after that, the only way to get the Alpha Boost now is through trading with other players who already own it. You can do it by either buying this account or trading it.

    • Trading: Player-to-player trading was removed from Rocket League on December 5. Since then, items can only be traded with friends within the game. To find potential sellers, players used platforms like Rocket League Garage (RL Garage), Reddit, Discord trading servers, or other Rocket League community forums and made purchases by adding sellers as friends.
      • To do this, go to the "Settings" menu, click on the "Interface" tab, and enable "Allow Player-to-Player trading."
    • Buying an account: The other way to get an Alpha Boost is by purchasing an account that owned the item before trading was removed. You can search Rocket League forums for it. However, please remember this is against Rocket League's Terms of Service

If obtaining the Alpha Boost seems too daunting or expensive, consider looking for alternative Rocket Trails that might satisfy your aesthetic needs. While none match the exact prestige of the Alpha Boost, there are several other unique boosts that can be acquired more easily and still offer a distinctive look.

Some notable alternatives include the Titanium White Standard Boost and the Crimson Flamethrower, both of which provide a visually striking effect while still being more accessible to players. Additionally, seasonal or event-exclusive boosts, like the Cosmic or Haunted Hallows Boosts, can add a unique flair to your car without the hefty price tag.

However, The Alpha Boost, or "Gold Rush," is still one of Rocket League's most sought-after items due to its rarity and exclusivity, given only to early Alpha testers.

So, how much is the Alpha Boost in Rocket League worth?

Alpha Boost is among the most valuable items in Rocket League. Its price typically ranges between 800,000 to 1,000,000 in-game credits, equating to approximately $4,000 to $5,000 USD. This high valuation is due to its extreme rarity and the prestige associated with owning such an exclusive item.
