Choosing your starting Sprite is one of the first decisions you'll make in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3. While you can collect stronger Sprites later in the match, your starter provides a passive bonus from the moment you land, giving you an early-game advantage.

So, which starting Sprite should you pick? The answer depends on your playstyle, but for most players, one option clearly stands above the rest.

    All starting Sprites in Fortnite

There are three starting Sprites to choose from before entering a match:

    Sprite

    Ability

    Best for

    Earth Sprite

Chance to receive extra rare loot from chests

    Loot-focused players

    Fire Sprite

Creates a fiery burst when damaging enemies

    Aggressive players

    Water Sprite

Each passive activates automatically, so you don't need to manually use your starting Sprite during a match.

If you're planning to complete your Sprite collection, be sure to check out our other Fortnite Sprite guides. We have a complete Sprite checklist to track every companion and variant, detailed farming guides for Galaxy Sprites and Gummy Sprites, a breakdown of the rarest Sprites and their drop rates, plus guides on trading Sprites, and how to get every Sprite in Chapter 7 Season 3.

    Sprite Mastery Levels (Level 1–5)

Each starting Sprite can be leveled up during a match by gaining eliminations, opening chests, or surviving longer. As your Sprite levels up, its passive ability becomes stronger and gains additional effects.

    Level

    Earth Sprite

    Fire Sprite

    Water Sprite

    Level 1

Small chance to receive rare loot from chests

Small fiery burst when damaging enemies

Slow Health regeneration while standing in water

    Level 2

Increased chance for rare loot and occasional extra ammo

Increased explosion damage and blast radius

Faster Health regeneration and minor Shield regeneration

    Level 3

Higher chance to find Epic loot and bonus healing items

Fire attacks apply burn damage over time

Healing continues briefly after leaving the water

    Level 4

Guaranteed bonus loot from certain chests and Supply Drops

Larger explosions that can damage structures

Strong healing aura that also restores nearby teammates

    Level 5

Chance to receive Legendary loot and double chest rewards

Massive fiery burst with a chain reaction between nearby enemies

Rapid Health and Shield regeneration plus temporary damage resistance while in water

Best starting Sprite for most players: Earth Sprite

For the average player, Earth Sprite is easily the best starting pick.

Its passive gives you a chance to find higher-quality loot when opening chests, helping you secure stronger weapons and healing items before your first fight. Since nearly every match begins with looting, this bonus provides consistent value regardless of whether you're playing Solo, Duos, or Squads.

Better early loot also creates a snowball effect—winning your first engagement usually means even better gear for the rest of the match.

When should you pick Fire Sprite?

The Fire Sprite is designed for aggressive players.

Every time you damage an opponent, it creates a fiery burst that deals additional damage around the target. This can help finish weakened enemies or pressure players hiding behind cover.

However, the explosion can also damage you if you're too close, making it a higher-risk option than Earth Sprite. If you enjoy pushing every fight and landing at hot drop locations, Fire Sprite is a solid alternative.

    Is Water Sprite worth choosing?

The Water Sprite is the most situational of the three.

Its passive restores Health while you're standing in water, and the healing also applies to nearby teammates. While this makes it useful during squad matches, it's much less valuable in Solos because you need access to water and must remain exposed while healing.

For coordinated teams that frequently rotate together, Water Sprite can save healing items throughout a match.

Can you change your starting Sprite later?

Yes. Your starting Sprite only affects the passive bonus you begin the match with.

As you explore the island, you can find and equip stronger Sprites like the Demon Sprite, Zero Point Sprite, Ghost Sprite, or Boss Sprite, replacing your starter with more powerful abilities suited for the late game.

Which starting Sprite should you pick?

For most players, the answer is simple:

    • Earth Sprite: Best overall and recommended for nearly everyone.
    • Fire Sprite: Best for aggressive players chasing eliminations.
    • Water Sprite: Best for coordinated Squads and support-focused gameplay.

Unless you're committed to an aggressive or team-support playstyle, Earth Sprite offers the most reliable value every match thanks to its stronger early-game loot, making it the safest and most effective starting choice in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3.
