Minecraft Chaos Cubed guide: Everything new in the 2026 update
Start exploring Minecraft's newest underground biomeChaos Cubed is Minecraft's second game drop of 2026, released on June 16, 2026 as Java Edition 26.2 and Bedrock Edition 26.30. Instead of introducing dozens of unrelated features, Chaos Cubed focuses on one major theme: bringing more life, creativity, and experimentation to caves with a brand-new biome, a unique mob, colorful building blocks, and interactive world mechanics.
Alongside the update, Mojang also launched a limited-time Community Challenge: Chaos Spreads, encouraging players to explore Sulfur Caves, experiment with Sulfur Spikes, and share their creations with the wider Minecraft community. During the event, players contribute to a global goal by engaging with Chaos Cubed features, unlocking rewards and celebrating the creativity of the community as chaos spreads across worlds.
If you're wondering what's new in the Chaos Cubed update, here's everything you need to know.

Best things to do first
If you're starting a new world after updating, a good progression looks like this:

- Capture a Sulfur Cube using a bucket.
- Feed it different blocks to discover unique behaviors.
- Collect Sulfur and Cinnabar blocks for building.
- Build your own geyser using Potent Sulfur.
- Search abandoned mineshafts for the Bounce music disc.

Promotions and downloadable content
To promote the release of Chaos Cubed, Mojang introduced several free rewards across both editions. Bedrock Edition players can claim three Character Creator items from the Marketplace, while Java Edition players receive a skin pack containing three themed skins.

Chaos Spreads Challenge
The Chaos Spreads Community Challenge encourages players to try the Chaos Cubed: Cursed Cubes add-on together. It runs from June 26 to July 7, with a goal of 250,000 players using the add-on.
How to participate

- Play in a world with friends using it.
Simply playing counts toward the total.
Rewards

Is Chaos Cubed worth playing?
If you enjoy discovering new mechanics instead of rushing to the End, Chaos Cubed is absolutely worth playing. The new Sulfur Caves, the highly interactive Sulfur Cube, geysers, and colorful Sulfur and Cinnabar blocks add plenty of reasons to start exploring underground again, while builders and redstone players gain dozens of new possibilities for custom creations and mini-games.

On top of that, the limited-time Chaos Spreads Community Challenge gives everyone another reason to jump in—simply play with friends using the free Chaos Cubed: Cursed Cubes add-on, and if the community reaches 250,000 players, every Bedrock Edition player unlocks the free Chaos Cubed: The Game Show world packed with physics-based mini-games.
Whether you're a survival explorer, a builder, or someone who loves experimenting with Minecraft's sandbox, Chaos Cubed offers enough fresh content to make it one of the most creative game drops of 2026.
