Did Fortnite remove fall damage? Not completely. Epic Games still keeps fall damage in the game, but the system has changed in a major way. Players can still take heavy damage from high falls, but fall damage will no longer directly eliminate you in casual modes. Here is everything you need to know.

    Did Fortnite remove fall damage?

No, Fortnite still has fall damage.

Epic Games changed how lethal falls work in unranked modes. Instead of dying instantly after a huge fall, players now survive with 1 health.

This means Fortnite fall damage still exists, but players no longer get instantly eliminated from very high falls in standard casual playlists.

How does Fortnite's fall damage work now

Before the update, Fortnite used a classic damage system:

    • Small falls caused no damage
    • Medium falls reduced health
    • Large falls instantly eliminated players

Now, the system is different in casual modes.

When players fall from a deadly height:

    • Shields are removed
    • Health drops to 1 HP
    • Characters enter a recovery animation
    • Players survive instead of being eliminated instantly

The game still punishes dangerous falls, but it gives players a small chance to recover.

Which modes have the new Fortnite fall damage?

The updated Fortnite fall damage system currently affects:

    • Unranked Battle Royale
    • Unranked Zero Build

In these modes, players survive massive falls instead of dying instantly.

However, Ranked Fortnite still uses the original fall damage system.

No more fall damage deaths in Fortnite

Players now survive huge falls with 1 HP through the new recovery mechanic. The update mainly affects unranked Battle Royale and Zero Build, while Ranked mode still uses traditional lethal Fortnite fall damage.

For casual players, fall damage is now less punishing. For competitive players, the original challenge still exists in Ranked matches.

Fortnite dangers that still eliminate players

Besides Fortnite fall damage, there are several other mechanics and environmental hazards in Fortnite that are used to eliminate players instantly or commonly cause accidental deaths.

    • Storm damage: Staying outside the safe zone slowly drains your health.
    • Vehicle explosions: Cars and fuel tanks can explode and instantly eliminate players.
    • Fire damage: Burning builds and structures can quickly spread fire damage.
    • Lava zones: Lava areas deal heavy damage and knock players back.
    • Wildlife attacks: Wolves, sharks, and other creatures can finish weak players.
    • NPC bosses and guards: Strong AI enemies can eliminate careless players fast.
    • Water hazards: Certain seasons included drowning-related eliminations.
    • Roadkill damage: Moving vehicles can instantly hit and eliminate players.
    • Environmental hazards: Falling rocks, traps, and map events have caused surprise deaths

Out of all these, Fortnite fall damage was one of the most frustrating ways to die, which is why Epic Games changed the system in casual modes.
