How to carve pumpkins in Fortnite: Locations and quest guide
Find five pumpkins in FortniteTo carve pumpkins in Fortnite, find an interactive pumpkin at Nightmare Neighborhood or Wonkeeland, approach it, and hold the button shown beside Carve Pumpkin. You need to carve five pumpkins to complete the Fortnitemares quest.
The tricky part is finding the correct pumpkins. Ordinary Halloween decorations do not count, and you do not need a special weapon or carving tool.
Below are the locations to search, a suggested route, and what to check if the interaction prompt does not appear.
How to carve pumpkins in Fortnite
Look for pumpkins that sparkle and display a white diamond-shaped exclamation mark when you approach. These markers distinguish the quest objects from nearby decorations.
Follow these steps:
- Open Quests and track Carve pumpkins at Nightmare Neighborhood or Wonkeeland.
- Enter a Battle Royale match and land at either location.
- Search for sparkling pumpkins and nearby quest markers.
- Approach a marked pumpkin until Carve Pumpkin appears.
- Hold the interaction button displayed on your screen.
- Check your progress and repeat until the counter reaches five.

The interaction button depends on your platform and control bindings, so follow the on-screen prompt. Carving uses this interaction rather than attacking the pumpkin.
Fortnite pumpkin locations
Both named locations contain eligible pumpkins. Search around house entrances at Nightmare Neighborhood and landscaped areas at Wonkeeland.

Use these landmarks to narrow your search, then confirm each target through its marker and interaction prompt.
Nightmare Neighborhood route
Start around the southern houses, checking porches and entrance steps. Move toward the central gazebo if you still need more pumpkins.
Our recommendation is to collect a weapon and shields before moving between exposed areas. Epic identifies Nightmare Neighborhood as Freddy Krueger’s location, so be alert around the boss area as well as nearby players.
Wonkeeland route
Check the tree near Corndawg’s Sauce Express, then move toward the red wooden building by the western courtyard.
The listed groups give you enough targets for the objective if they remain available. Choose your route around enemy activity and the storm rather than crossing the location blindly.
Do you need to visit both locations?
No. The objective requires five pumpkins in total, rather than a separate amount at each location. You can complete it entirely at Nightmare Neighborhood, entirely at Wonkeeland, or split your progress between them.
For an efficient attempt, choose the location that best suits the Battle Bus route. If it becomes crowded, prioritize surviving over reaching another pumpkin immediately.
Check the quest counter after each interaction so you know how many remain.
Why can’t I carve a pumpkin in Fortnite?
A missing prompt usually means you need to check the object or your positioning before trying again.
- Check the pumpkin: Decorative pumpkins do not qualify.

- Move closer: Stand beside the target and face it.
- Look for the marker: Eligible pumpkins sparkle and show the quest icon nearby.
- Hold the button: Complete the interaction rather than tapping and moving away.
- Check your quest list: Confirm the objective is still available and unfinished.
If one target offers no interaction, try another marked pumpkin. Avoid repeatedly hitting it with your pickaxe; that is not the carving action.
Is carving the same as smashing Pumpkin Chests?
No. Carving pumpkins and smashing a Pumpkin Chest are separate Fortnitemares objectives.
For carving, use the Carve Pumpkin prompt. The chest objective specifically asks you to smash a Pumpkin Chest to find a Sprite. Completing one action should not be treated as completing the other.
Fortnite pumpkin-carving quest reward
Completing Carve pumpkins at Nightmare Neighborhood or Wonkeeland (5) awards 15,000 XP. It also adds a completed objective toward the wider Fortnitemares quest progression.

After the fifth interaction, check for the completion notification before leaving the area. Use the event timer in your quest menu to confirm how much time remains to finish your other objectives.
