There is a big confusion when it comes to “The Beginning” achievement in Minecraft. There are two different achievements with almost the same name, with one differing itself with a question mark at the end, making the achievement name “The Beginning?” In Bedrock Edition, the game splits this Wither milestone into two separate achievements: “The Beginning?” for spawning the Wither and “The Beginning” for killing it.

This is why the topic needs a clear explanation from the start. Some players also think they need mods to get this achievement, but that is not how the official system works. The real unlock comes from the normal Wither process in Bedrock. Mods may change the experience, but they do not replace the official requirement for the achievement itself. Here is everything you need to know about these two achievements and how to get them!

What is “The Beginning” achievement in Minecraft?

When players talk about “The beginning” achievement in Minecraft, they usually mean one of the two Wither-related achievements in Bedrock Edition. “The Beginning?” unlocks when you successfully summon the Wither. “The Beginning.” unlocks later, once you defeat it.

That distinction matters because the two achievements sit on the same boss path, but they do not ask for the same thing. The first one is about creating the boss. The second one is about finishing the fight. If your goal is only to unlock the achievement tied to the start of the encounter, you only need to summon the Wither.

The Wither is one of the hardest bosses in Minecraft, so this achievement has more weight than many early or passive goals. It is also important in the further stages of the game, because defeating the Wither gives you a Nether Star, which you need to craft a beacon. So even though the search starts with one achievement, it often leads players toward one of the game’s most important boss milestones

How to get “The Beginning” and “The Beginning?” achievements

To get “The Beginning?” achievement, you need to summon the Wither in Bedrock Edition. The process is direct, but the preparation takes time.

    Here is what you need:

    • 4 blocks of soul sand or soul soil
    • 3 Wither Skeleton Skulls

Once you have the materials, build the Wither structure in a T shape. Place the three skulls on top, and the Wither will spawn. When that happens, the achievement unlocks.

Here is the basic process in order:

    1. Go to the Nether and find a Nether Fortress.
    2. Defeat Wither Skeletons until you collect 3 skulls.
    3. Gather 4 soul sand or soul soil.
    4. Build the Wither structure in a safe open area.
    5. Place the final skull and trigger the spawn.

The hardest part for most players is not the summoning step. It is farming the skulls. Wither Skeletons do not always drop them, so this stage can take a while. Good armor, a strong sword, and healing items make the grind much easier. It also helps to avoid spawning the Wither close to your main base, because the fight can destroy a lot of nearby blocks very fast.

What is the hardest Minecraft achievement to get?

As for the hardest Minecraft achievement, there is no official label that names one single hardest achievement across every version and platform. Still, many players see How Did We Get Here? as one of the toughest goals in the game because it requires heavy setup, rare effects, and careful timing. That answer usually comes up more for Java players, while Bedrock players often focus on difficult boss or survival-related achievements instead.

Onur Demirkol here, content writer for THESPIKEGG. I have been around for a very long time now, you may have seen me in the comments.

I started writing here in 2021, but my first gig was back in 2018. That was when I realized people actually get paid to write about games. I’ve written thousands of articles for different media outlets, led teams, and conducted interviews with players.

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
