Being one of the best Champions to play in the Top Lane since her release, she also has some awesome lore, and this is arguably some of the best storytelling in the whole of the League of Legends roster.

She often gets overlooked for Top Lane picks that are flashier, but there is a reason the pro players pick her regularly. If you want to know everything about Gwen, this guide covers all of her abilities in detail as well as her lore, so you know the awesomeness of champion you’re playing!

Gwen’s abilities in League of Legends

Passive: Thousand Cuts

Gwen Passive
Gwen Passive

Gwen's passive has her basic attacks, the center of her Q, and her ultimate ability deal bonus magic damage which is equal to 1% of the target’s maximum health, with an additional 0.8% being added for every 100 Ability Power that Gwen has.

Gwen is also healed for 50% of the damage dealt against champions, which is capped at between 10 and 25 health, plus 6.5% of Gwen’s AP.

This ability also deals an additional 8 to 30 bonus magic damage against minions that are below 40% HP, so it essentially works as an execute!

Q : Snip Snip!

The passive of Gwen's Q has her basic attacks generate a stack of Snippy for six seconds. This stacks up to four times refreshes on subsequent attacks and can be consumed by using her Q.

The active of this ability has Gwen snip at least two times with her scissors in a small cone in front of her. This deals magic damage to any enemies within the area, with the last snip dealing an increased amount of damage. This damage is up to 30 plus 5% of her AP, and the final snip is up to 160 plus 35% of her AP.

The center of this ability converts 50% of the damage dealt to true damage and then applies her passive of Thousand Cuts. This also executes minions below 20% health when she first snips them.

Any snippy stacks that Gwen has get consumed to snipers scissors and additional time.

W: Hallowed Mist

Gwen summons a ring of mist around her in which she gains bonus armor and bonus magic resist of up to 30 plus 7% of her AP, and is also untargetable to all enemies excluding turrets and monsters outside of this area.

Gwen can then cast the ability again to move it to her current location if she leaves the mist, but this will also automatically follow her if she dashes out of it.

E: Skip ‘n Slash

Gwen dashes in the target direction and empowers her next basic attacks for four seconds to deal 15 bonus magic damage plus 20% AP, and gives her up to 80% increased attack speed as well as 75 bonus attack range.

Gwen's first basic attack during these four seconds refunds a portion of this ability's cooldown, which is up to 65% at max rank. This ability is also an auto attack reset so you can auto-e-auto for a really fast combo!

R: Needlework

Gwen launches a needle in a direction that deals magic damage to any enemies it hits and slows them for 1.5 seconds. This is 95 magic damage per needle plus 10% of Gwen's AP, as well as slowing for up to 60% at max rank.

Gwen can then cast this ability two more times within six seconds of activating the first one with a one second cooldown between each cast. For every subsequent cast the number of needles launched is increased by two and the slow is increased by an additional 25%.

The second cast throws three needles and the third cast throws five needles in the target direction. Each cast following the first will do 285 magic damage plus 30% of Gwen's AP, plus 3% of the target's maximum health, with an additional 2.4% being added on for every 100 AP that Gwen has.

As we said, Gwen has some of the best lore in League of Legends and she's actually a magically altered human who is being possessed by the soul of Viego’s dead wife, Isolde. Isolde created Gwen as a doll between 47 BN and 30 BN, which places her approximately 1028 and 1045 years of age - although she does look between 18 and 25 in-game!

Gwen's voice actress is Abby Trott, and although Abby Trott is an American voice actress Gwen actually has a transatlantic accent, with a mixture of American and European in her voice.

Gwen might not be the champion for you, but that's okay because we have a ton of other champion guides right here that you can check out, and the first one we'll link for you is Viego, the king of Camavor!

I graduated with my Esports degree with a 2:1, and a desire to keep going, so this was a perfect step for me, but I still can't get enough of League of Legends when I'm free.
