Varus is a champion that brings something special to the game, thanks to his powerful abilities and the interesting way he plays in matches. There are different ways to play Varus and it changes according to meta. Sometimes you see players focusing on their Q skill but sometimes the meta requires you to build attack speed and kite their enemies. Here is everything you need to know about Varus in League of Legends!

Varus abilities in League of Legends

Here is a list of all the abilities of Varus in League of Legends:

    PASSIVE: LIVING VENGEANCE

On kill or assist, Varus temporarily gains Attack Speed. This bonus is larger if the enemy is a champion.

    Varus Passive
    Varus Passive

    Q: PIERCING ARROW

Varus readies and then fires a powerful shot that gains extra range and damage the longer he spends preparing to fire.

His Q, Piercing Arrow, is a key part of his gameplay. Varus can charge up a big arrow shot that goes through enemies, doing more damage the longer he charges it. This ability lets him hit enemies from far away or finish off those trying to escape.

    W: BLIGHTED QUIVER

Passive: Varus' basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and apply Blight. Varus' other abilities detonate Blight, dealing magic damage based on the target's maximum Health. Active: Varus empowers his next Piercing Arrow.

Then there's W, Blighted Quiver, which adds a magical touch to his attacks. It makes his basic attacks do extra magic damage and puts Blight stacks on enemies. When he uses his other abilities, these stacks explode, dealing damage based on the enemy's health. This makes him a threat to all kinds of enemies.

    E: HAIL OF ARROWS

Varus fires a hail of arrows that deal physical damage and desecrate the ground. Desecrated ground slows enemies' Move Speed and reduces their self healing and regeneration.

E, Hail of Arrows, gives Varus control over an area by slowing down enemies and making them heal less. It's great for stopping enemies from running away or for making it harder for them to fight back.

    Varus E

    R: CHAIN OF CORRUPTION

Varus flings out a damaging tendril of corruption that immobilizes the first enemy champion hit and then spreads towards nearby uninfected champions, immobilizing them too on contact.

His Ultimate, Chain of Corruption, is a game-changing ability in team fights. It not only hurts but also stops the first enemy it hits, and then it can spread to others if they're close. This can turn a fight around, making Varus a key player in team strategies.

Best Varus build in League of Legends

When playing Varus, picking the right items, abilities, and runes makes a big difference. Here's a simple guide:

    • Starting Out: Kick things off with Doran's Blade for a nice mix of attack power, health, and a bit of healing on hit. Grab a Health Potion to keep you in lane longer without returning.
    • Items:
      • Blade of the Ruined King is perfect for Varus. It makes his attacks faster, steals some life, and its special effect deals extra damage based on how healthy the enemy is.
      • Berserker's Greaves speed up his attacks, letting him hit harder and faster.
      • Guinsoo's Rageblade is a game-changer. It makes every hit pack more punch and helps stack up Varus’ special attack effects quicker.
    • Defensive and Situational Items:
      • Guardian Angel can save you in tight spots, giving you a second chance if you're taken out.
      • Jak'Sho, The Protean adjusts to the kind of damage you're taking, helping you last longer in fights.
      • Terminus is great for both staying alive longer and hitting harder in big team battles.
    • Runes:
      • The Lethal Tempo rune lets you attack even faster after you start fighting, which is great for longer battles.
      • Pick Triumph, Legend: Alacrity, and Coup de Grace from the Precision group for more power and healing.Taste of Blood and
      • Ravenous Hunter from the Domination group give you more healing, which is super helpful for staying in the fight.
    • Skill Order: Focus on getting better at Q (Piercing Arrow) for shooting from far away and clearing out minions. Then, upgrade W (Blighted Quiver) to make your hits even more powerful. Lastly, improve E (Hail of Arrows) to slow down enemies and mess with their healing.

    Varus counters

Playing as Varus, you might find a few champions a bit tricky to face. Here's what you can do when up against Twitch, Ziggs, and Kog'Maw:

    Twitch

This sneaky rat likes to hide and surprise attack. The best way to deal with him is to keep an eye out. Place wards around to catch him before he catches you. If he disappears, moving back to a safer spot near your tower is a good idea. When he pops up to attack, use your R (Chain of Corruption) to stop him in his tracks. Always be ready to move out of his way when he tries to sneak up on you.

    Ziggs

Ziggs throws bombs from far away, making it hard to stay in lane without getting hit. To dodge his bombs, watch how he throws them and hide behind your minions to avoid getting hit directly. That's your chance to hit back when Ziggs has just used his big moves. If you're getting hit too much, buying an item like Hexdrinker early on can help keep you safe from his bursts. Try to catch him with your ultimate when he’s less mobile, especially right after he uses his escape move.

    Kog'Maw

In the late game, Kog'Maw can be really powerful with his long-range attacks. Early on, though, you can pressure him because he's slow. Use your E (Hail of Arrows) and Q (Piercing Arrow) to keep him from getting too comfortable. Make sure to watch out for enemy junglers coming to help him by placing wards. Later, when Kog'Maw gets stronger, stick with your team and focus on staying safe. Catching Kog'Maw with your ultimate during team fights can make a big difference, stopping him from doing a lot of damage.

    Varus voice lines

Varus' voice lines add to his character, showing his struggle and desire for revenge. Here are some of the most popular voice lines of the champion in League of Legends:

    • "The guilty will know agony."
    • "I faced terrors... Until I became one."
    • "Runeterra Crest icon Darkin, or human... I was always a weapon."
    • "No heart binds me!"
    • "A land of riddled bodies marks my return."
    • "I will bury the world that buried me."
    • "My hosts dwell on a humanity long gone..."
    • "The magic that sealed me became my blight."
    • "Compassion... is but a whisper."
    • "You walk a dark path, Varus."
    • "Mortals once used me to confront the Darkin. I see no greater war than facing my brethren."

    Varus voice actor

The voice that brings Varus to life is Gavin Hammon, a talented voice actor. Hammon's work adds depth to Varus, making him more than just a character in a game but a story on his own.

    Varus release date

Varus joined League of Legends on May 8th, 2012. Since then, he's been a common choice for players in the bot lane, adapting with the game while keeping his core identity as a powerful and interesting champion.

    Who forms Varus?

Varus is not one person. He is made of three beings. The first is a Darkin, an ancient warrior trapped inside a bow. The second and third are two hunters from Ionia named Valmar and Kai. They were lovers and tried to protect their home from Noxian forces. After Kai was badly hurt, Valmar picked up the bow to save him. When he did this, the Darkin spirit inside the bow merged with both of them. This created a new body that holds all three minds.

    Who is Varus’ brother?

Varus does not have a real brother. However, he sometimes calls other Darkin champions like Aatrox and Rhaast his “brothers.” This is because they come from the same race. They fought in the same ancient war and were sealed away in weapons.

    What role is Varus?

Varus is a bot lane marksman. He uses strong poke and crowd control to keep enemies away. He works well in team fights and has both attack damage and ability power builds. Some players also use him in the mid lane.

Varus shows the depth and dynamic gameplay League of Legends offers. Whether you've been playing for years or are just starting, learning to play Varus takes practice and understanding his strengths and how to use them. With every shot he fires, Varus remains an exciting choice for players wanting to leave their mark in the game.
